New Zealand Tobacco Company was the venture founded by Gerhard Husheer soon after arriving in NZ just before WWI. It was later disbanded after director/board disagreements, and the National Tobacco Company started, which became a well-known feature in the Ahuriri community for many decades. It was in turn sold to Rothmans in the late 1950s. Contrary to popular belief, Gerhard Husheer was not always a rich man. He brought drive and tobacco growing and production expertise to this country after founding a similar operation in South Africa, and raised capital to start the Ahuriri businesses through investor subscription via a prospectus like this one.
